Sepang International Circuit lies in Sepang, Selangor, around 45 km south of Kuala Lumpur and close to Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia. Designed by Hermann Tilke and opened in 1999, it hosted the Malaysian Grand Prix every year from 1999 to 2017 and set the template for a generation of modern Formula 1 venues. In 2026 it was chosen to host the relocated Bahrain Grand Prix, run as the Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.
The broad track combines long straights and hard braking zones with quick, sweeping corners, notably the long curve through Turns 5 and 6. The lap ends at the tight Turn 15 hairpin, placed between the back straight and the main straight, which creates two strong overtaking opportunities. Hot, humid conditions are standard, and tropical storms can drench the track with little warning.
